About UsbDk (USB Development Kit)

UsbDk (USB Development Kit) is a high-performance open-source kernel-level driver and user-space library originally engineered by Red Hat and maintained by Daynix Computing. Unlike traditional generic USB drivers (like WinUSB or LibUSB) that require replacing existing vendor drivers via tools like Zadig, UsbDk acts as an intelligent filter driver. It allows software applications to detach specific USB devices from standard Windows driver stacks dynamically and claim exclusive, low-level pipe access.

Key Use Cases

  • Smart Device Modding & Repair: UsbDk is an essential component for contemporary smartphone maintenance utilities, notably MTK Client and MediaTek BROM SLA/DAA Bypass utilities, allowing seamless SP Flash Tool interaction without COM port driver conflicts.
  • Virtual Machine USB Passthrough: Facilitates seamless detachment and redirection of host USB devices into virtualized environments such as QEMU, KVM, SPICE, and VirtualBox.
  • USB Traffic Sniffing & Debugging: Enables packet inspection and low-level protocol capture tools (such as Wireshark) to monitor raw USB communication channels directly.

Key Technical Highlights

  • Dynamic Device Detachment: Safely isolates target USB devices without overwriting existing Windows drivers, automatically restoring original device bindings when the managing application terminates.
  • Zero System Driver Damage: Leaves your standard system peripherals, webcams, and manufacturer drivers fully intact.
  • Full USB Standard Coverage: Comprehensive support for USB 1.1, USB 2.0 (High-Speed), USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed), and modern USB 3.x standards.
  • Signed Kernel Driver: Digitally signed by Red Hat / Microsoft, ensuring effortless installation on 64-bit Windows systems without disabling Driver Signature Verification.
